Jamestown

If you know anything about history you'll know the significance of Jamestown. I wish everyone could visit Williamsburg and Jamestown, especially our younger generation. What an experience.

The James River where 3 small ships landed and started Fort James. Later changed to Jamestown.  This was the location of the fist English settlement in America.

Part of the fort wall and the cannon facing toward the river just in case the Spaniards came along.

Capitan John Smith on original location. The fort was a triangular in shape.

Scale model of the original fort

Present archeological digs going on. The archeologists told me this was an oven for baking bread. It was approximately 4 feet under the ground.

This square tower was an original construction

Pocahontas, daughter of the chief of the Powhatan  Indians

First mass grave in America

The swampy tar pits that separated that Island from the mainland
