Ashland - Highland & UVA

Continuing our visit in Charlottesville we visited Thomas Jefferson's good friends home, James Monroe. James Monroe our 5th President and last President that was one of the "founding fathers". We also went to visit another close friend of Mr. Jefferson's, James Madison our 4th President and "Father of the Constitution". However after arriving we found Mr. Madison's home was closed at the time. Since Montpelier was closed we decided to visit the University of Virginia.

Looking through the pillars at the rear of Rotunda. With the pavilions on each side that room graduating seniors. These were part of the original construction when University was started by Jefferson. I was able to visit a students room after a nice young man offered me a look at his room. Original old wood floor, brick walls, fire place in each room and 1 bunk bed. It is quite the honor to get one these rooms for your Senior year.
