Tombstone

A trip to this part of Arizona wouldn't be complete without visiting Tombstone.
The West's wildest mining town owes it's beginning to Ed Schieffelin, who prospected the nearby hills in 1877. Friends warned him all he would ever find would be his own tombstone. But instead of an Apache arrow or bullet, he found loads of silver . The rush was on. The population grew to over 10,000 and with it many colorful characters and lawlessness.
In 1881, the feud between the Earps and Clantons culminated in the famous gunfight near the OK Corral.
Our trip to Tombstone was very enjoyable. When you go, you definitely want to see the gunfight, visit boothill, visit a couple of the old saloons and tour the old court house which is now a wonderful museum.

Several men were hung on the gallows in the exercise yard adjacent to the jail in the back of the court house.

A gunfight is brewing with the Clantons and McLowrys. Doc Holliday is talking with the Earps.

In 30 seconds it was over. Billie Clanton and both of the McLowerys lay dead. Marshall Virgil Earp and Deputy Morgan Earp are wounded. Doc Holliday is grazed and Deputy Wyatt Earp stood untouched by any of the "cowboys" bullets. Ike Clanton ran away.

These guys were very good actors and all gentlemen.
Well, so were the bad guys.

Inside one the Tombstone saloons, this is the famous "Crystal Palace"
